Background

Whitiora Centre is a conduit for Ngāi Tūāhuriri Rūnanga and have the operational role of driving positive change for Ngāi Tūāhuriri in all forms and functions. We achieve this through strategic partnerships and advisory work with entities that deliver or control services in the takiwā.

Whitiora was established in September 2020 as a direct response to the Covid-19 global pandemic and started as a regional skills centre. It has since grown to become a full-service company that delivers cultural and strategic advisory services.

Our original mission was to be the conduit that connects those looking for work with those looking for workers.  Our mission has now widened to deliver services that will improve the lives and wellbeing of the people of our community. We aim to create a thriving pā and takiwā where the Ngāi Tūāhuriri voice is heard, respected and visible in all domains.

We work alongside Government agencies, non-profit organisations, or private companies to respond to complex problems that impact on the wellbeing of people and communities. Our team draw on extensive community networks, analytics derived from data and research, and embedded cultural knowledge to support improved decision making that has impact.

Whitiora is now mandated by Ngāi Tūāhuriri Rūnanga, to provides advice and facilitate authorised official Rūnanga positions on plan changes, resource consents, archaeological authorities, various projects within or affecting waterways, reserves management, infrastructure installation and repair, and a wide range of council and crown-related projects within the takiwā.

Whitiora exists for our hapū. We are the bridge between our village and the wider region.
